How to survive the Holidays

The roads are lined with little white crystals, it's cold, it's dark, the traffic is hellish, the shops are crowded with people, the holiday invitations are raining down on our Facebook page, purchases are shattering the budget. Stress undermines our health in this period, which should be positive, joyous and festive. We lack the time to take care of ourselves.

The holiday season is a magical time, but it can also be a source of pressure, accumulation of fatigue and even extra pounds. Excessive solicitation at social events, expectations of family reunions, and the fear of spending too much or overeating make this time of year quite stressful.

Here are some tips to help you spend the holidays in full physical and mental health.

1. Choose your social events

Simplify your life. You may need to be firmer and decline invitations that do not fit your Christmas holiday idea. Think about what this period really means to you and your family. It is important to learn to say no and reorient your priorities. It is not essential to participate in all the exchanges of gifts and every 5 to 7 of the office.

2. Replace a social event with physical activity

Set yourself a physical activity as a social event. Go slide, dance, skate or dress warmly and go for a walk. Physical activity reduces stress and allows you to relax to better manage the holiday season. The activity in question can also be connected to a good cause, which will allow you to do something for you while offering your support to people in need.

3. Allow yourself a break

Although this time of the year is about generosity, it's also important to think about yourself. Take your time, if only to recharge your batteries by blowing a bit of your yoga class or meditating for a few minutes in your room before starting your day. Avoid perfectionism in the preparations and set realistic goals to lighten your schedule.

4. Make peace with your excesses

Do not be too hard on yourself if you make excesses during this festive time. Although moderation tastes better in terms of alcohol and food, guilt should not overwhelm you. Instead, take steps to regain your balance instead of losing your energy in unnecessary reproach. A well-balanced holiday season is synonymous with well-being and peace of mind!
