Swimming a complete sport

Swimming a complete sport

Whether for the competition (synchronized swimming, or diving) for fun or just to play like a fish in the water, swimming is a very accessible sport. This sport works the whole body, which is excellent for health. There is very little talk of this activity that has always existed. Yet there is more than just a swim in the pool on a beautiful summer day. Swimming can also be a challenge. The swimmer can practice his sport regularly to take advantage of all his benefits or to surpass himself by experimenting various techniques. Pools in sports centers provide corridors for laps and energy by bouncing in the water.

Swimming is a sport that produces little impact on the body. It is therefore more difficult but not impossible to get hurt. The main injuries are often caused by repetition of movements and not to trauma. In these cases, it is recommended to take a break or to reduce the intensity of the movements and the effort during a certain period.

Swimming techniques

  • Breaststroke - The simplest technique that consists of successive sequences on the belly, coordinated and symmetrical arms and legs.
  • The crawl - The fastest technique in freestyle competitions which consists of a continuous beating of the legs and a reciprocating movement of the arms that are projected into the water vertically.
  • The back - The technique is the only backstroke technique that looks like the crawl with the advantage of not putting your head in the water while allowing some relaxation.
  • The butterfly - The most difficult technique of rotating both arms at the same time outside the water. It is normally reserved for experienced swimmers.

The benefits

  • Helps with weight loss (swimming burns about 423 calories per hour);
  • Improves muscle tone and strength
  • Improves the cardio
  • Improves flexibility
  • Reduces stress
  • Decreases hypertension
  • Promotes heart rate
  • Promotes blood circulation
  • Has positive effects in the treatment of certain injuries
  • Significantly reduces back pain

The possible pain caused by repetition

  • Shoulder pain
  • Back pain
  • Knee pain

In addition to free swimming, swimming lessons are also offered in several sports centers. From a very young age children and even babies can have fun as fish in the water with their parents or their instructor. There is also the possibility to indulge in aquafit classes alone or with baby. In addition to being a safe sport with little risk of injury, swimming can be done at its own pace and it remains a sport accessible to everyone, to all age groups.

All the reasons are good to be active in the water!
